1 Timothy 2

  1. Paul gives lots of instruction in 1 Timothy and we certainly see that in this chapter. In verse 1 he mentions 3 different types of prayer along with the general word “prayer”: supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings. I think you probably can guess what thanksgivings are, but define supplications and intercessions.

  2. Paul’s point is that we should pray in all sorts of ways for all people. What is his reasoning from verses 3-4?

  3. Verse 4 says that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. In verse 5-6 Paul gives 2 pieces of evidence that support the statement from verse 4, what are they?

  4. In the second and final section of this chapter, verses 8-15, Paul addresses specific things in regard to each gender. What does he say about the men? And what does he say about the Women?

  5. Note that in verse 15 which says “Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.” This does not mean that bearing children saves a woman. Paul is saying that if they continue if faith, love, holiness, and self-control, they will be saved, and childbearing is their duty. Remember the curse from Genesis 3:16, where God multiplied women’s pain in childbearing. On enduring and being saved see Matthew 10:22.
